Gambling, drugs or alcohol will not be permitted and possession/use of such will result in an expulsion from the unit. There will be no forced living arrangements as it is imperative to create an atmosphere that is comfortable and conducive to personal growth and development for everyone. Residents will abide by all BOP rules and regulations and failure to do so will result in an expulsion from the unit.
The classes that will be facilitated on this unit are the Catalyst, Self-Awareness, Thinking For a Change: New Beginnings, Victim Impact, Anger Management, and many others that address the cognitive therapy needs of the participants in the unit. The intent is to have all of the programs that are a part of the reentry process right on the unit in an atmosphere that promotes the residents well being, healthy and holistic living, and re-entry affairs.
There are many benefits to creating this type of therapeutic environment. Most notable has been the previous success in reducing the rate of recidivism in similar communities. FCI McKean has an opportunity to be at the forefront of the national Re-Entry Movement by modeling a non-clinical therapeutic living community that could potentially be replicated inside every other federal facility across the country with a minimal investment of Bureau time and resources.
